WWE will be bringing back Halftime Heat this weekend. The event will go down during halftime of this Sunday’s Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams. Fans can watch via the WWE Network, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. A Six-Man NXT Tag Team match will be taking place.
Aleister Black, Ricochet, and Velveteen Dream will be facing NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa, NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano, and Adam Cole. PWInsider has provided some insight into WWE’s plans for the match. Initial speculation suggested the show would be taped during tonight’s NXT tapings from Full Sail University. However, WWE officials want the bout to air live so that there are no spoilers.
Instead, current plans have the bout taking place from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. WWE could bring in local fans so that there’s an audience, or they could use a bunch of wrestlers as extras. Or, WWE could also attempt to recreate the magic that Mankind and The Rock pulled off 20 years ago in the first-ever Halftime Heat, with an Empty Arena match.
WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels will be serving as a guest commentator for the bout. As mentioned, The Rock and Mankind’s Empty Arena match was the first-ever Halftime Heat special 20 years ago on January 31st, 1999. This occurred during halftime of the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl 33 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Mankind defeated The Rock to win the WWE Championship.
