WWE Reportedly Lifts Ban On Certain Forbidden Terms

WWE Superstars will soon be able to use certain banned terms, including being able to use the term ‘wrestle.’

Under the Vince McMahon era of WWE, certain terms were off limits, including wrestle, with the sole exception being the company’s flagship event ‘WrestleMania.’

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s co-CEOs Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan, as well as head of talent/creative Triple H, are open to the usage of terms such as ‘wrestler’ and ‘wrestling.’

WWE Superstars have been told to get the proper authorization backstage before using either term on TV.

WWE is still expected to refer to talent as Superstars due to branding.

The terms are no longer considered “dirty words” according to the report, which adds that everyone backstage in WWE is thrilled by the new policy.
