The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that unsurprisingly, WWE is not happy about the idea of the planned Chris Benoit biopic. The site reports that as the movie is likely to show drug use, possible steroid use and use CTE as a possible explanation as to why Benoit snapped, the company isn’t pleased that it is moving forward.

The film was originally supposed to be based on Irv Muchnick’s book about the murders, but negotiations with Muchnick fell apart. As such, it is now based on Matthew Randazzo’s Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit & the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry. The site reports that agency William Morris Endeavor is involved with the film and at one point suggested that the film have scenes speculating whether Kevin Sullivan was involved, promoting a longtime conspiracy theory about the murders. One discussed scene involved Sullivan breaking into Benoit’s house in order to add to the speculation that he was involved. Original writer Richard O’Sullivan said that he left the project, as he refused to write the Sullivan content into the film. Those close to the film say it will be much closer to the real story.

The site says that Michael C. Hall (Dexter) was suggested for the role of Benoit, but he turned it down because he didn’t want to be typecast as a killer. Kellen Lutz and Liam McIntyre were discussed for the role as well. Rumors of Liev Schreiber playing Benoit have been shot down.
