John Cena’s proposal to long-time girlfriend Nikki Bella made for a great moment and best of luck to those two on their future marriage. But, did John Cena’s proposal change the course of plans for WWE a few months prior to WrestleMania.
Bill Bhatti of the Dirty Sheets Podcast shared a report with SportsKeeda and shared how one idea from WWE Executive Producer Kevin Dunn changed the plans going forward into WrestleMania. According to Bill Bhatti, the reason John Cena defeated AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble was because he agreed to propose to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania, in-which the idea was proposed by Kevin Dunn.
Bhatti then went on to add that the original plan for the 2017 Royal Rumble was to have AJ Styles drop the WWE Championship to The Undertaker. Shortly after, Styles would head into the Elimination Chamber PPV and recapture the championship. Current WWE Champion Randy Orton was always penciled in as the winner of the 2017 Royal Rumble but the predicted match between him and Styles would have taken place at WrestleMania 33 opposed to the upcoming summer of 2017.
It was also reported here on eWn, according to SportsKeeda that Cena’s proposal delayed the debut of Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura was reportedly supposed to capture the I.C. Championship at WrestleMania from The Miz stemming from Miz’s & SD Live GM Daniel Bryan’s issue with one another. Bryan was supposed to announce a challenger for The Miz on his behalf which was set to be Shinsuke Nakamura. But, Cena agreeing to the match with Miz & Maryse delayed Nakamura’s main roster debut and possibly the Intercontinental Championship.
Noted that these are rumors but from the report it does appear as if Cena’s proposal single-handedly changed plans on the road to WrestleMania.
