WWE has at one time had plans to turn Gable Steveson into the next Brock Lesnar when they signed the young gold medalist.
Steveson, an Olympic Gold Medalist, joined WWE last year, amid reports of joining AEW, or trying a career in MMA or the NFL.
The Olympian is yet to have a match for WWE, but appeared at WrestleMania 38 where he delivered a suplex on Chad Gable.
During an appearance on the Sunday Night’s Main Event TSN Radio show, Dave Meltzer discussed WWE’s plans.
“It was [that] he was gonna be the new Brock Lesnar and they were going to send coaches to Minnesota [and] get a place in Minneapolis and during the wrestling season, they were gonna have him also train as a pro wrestler, which probably wasn’t a good idea to do both at the same time.”
It has been reported that WWE has gone sour on Steveson, who is not showing the improvement expected of him after a year of training.
There were once plans to fast-track him to the main roster, but that is no longer believed to be the case.
