Before The Rock told WWE that he didn’t feel like he had enough time to get into ring shape for a WrestleMania 39 main event match against Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, that was the dream match for the company.

It was previously reported that WWE was planning to separate the Undisputed WWE Universal Championships – WWE Title and Universal Title – heading into WrestleMania.

If The Rock had gone forward with the match, then Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre or Cody Rhodes for the WWE Title would’ve headlined the first night of WrestleMania, while the second night would’ve been headlined by Rock vs. Reigns.

Dave Meltzer also confirmed this previous report on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer speculated that Rhodes would’ve likely won the “new” championship on the first night of WrestleMania if The Rock went forward with the Reigns match.

It’s worth noting that WWE still plans to separate the Undisputed WWE Universal Title to have a top champion on both RAW and SmackDown.
