WWE has secured the trademark for “SmackDown.”
USPTO (United States Patent & Trademark Office) records show that WWE filed for the trademark on May 31, 2022. The trademark is for,
Mark For: SMACKDOWN™ trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of clothing, namely, tops, shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, hoodies; outerwear, namely, coats; bottoms, pants, shorts, underwear, dresses, pajamas, clothing ties, scarves, gloves, swimwear; Halloween and masquerade costumes; bandanas; championship trophy belts.
Interestingly, the word “Smackdown” is included in the 2007 Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. The term has been closely linked to wrestling and WWE ever since the first episode of SmackDown aired back in 1999. It was originated by one of the Superstars to be in the main event of the first episode, The Rock. WWE SmackDown currently airs every Friday at 8 PM ET on FOX. The 25th anniversary of the show will occur on October 10, 2024.
