WWE Reportedly Setting Up Brock Lesnar-Cain Velasquez Match After Rey & Dominick Mysterio Attack

According to a report from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Paul Heyman’s promo on last night’s episode of Monday Night RAW praising Brock Lesnar was designed to build a potential match with UFC star Cain Velasquez.

It was also mentioned that Lesnar attacking both Rey Mysterio and Dominick Mysterio was also part of that plan. The idea being Lesnar attacked the top Mexican WWE Superstar and his son, and Cain, a legitimate Mexican badass, could come in to avenge Mysterio. Velasquez has not signed with WWE, or any promotion for that matter; as he’s still in discussions with the likes of AEW, NJPW, and AAA as well.

WWE was still in talks with Velasquez as of Monday, with the hope being a massive matchup between the former UFC heavyweight champion and Brock Lesnar, a rematch from their UFC 21 fight in 2010 in which Velasquez decimated Lesnar. It was also noted that Velasquez wants to undergo knee surgery before making a long-term commitment to a professional wrestling company.
