According to a report from Deadline, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) broadcast partner Warner Bros. Discovery and BT Group are creating a 50-50 joint venture. The venture is to create new content in the UK and Ireland.
Warner Bros. Discovery will be taking over BT Sport and Eurosport UK’s operating businesses. For those of you who don’t know, BT Sport is the broadcast partner of WWE in the United Kingdom. The merger will also merge the content offerings of both BT Sport and Eurosport UK.
Other offerings will include the likes of UEFA’s Champions League and Europa League, Premier League matches, Premiership Rugby, UFC, the Olympic Games, and more.
As of right now, Warner Bros. Discovery and BT Group have agreed to directly contribute, sub-license or deliver their sports rights and existing distribution agreements in the UK and Ireland.
After the transaction is completed, the whole of BT Sports’ production and operational assets will transfer over to and become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery.
Back in June of 2019, WWE and BT Sport agreed to a multi-year broadcast deal.
