Backstage News On The Finish To Randy Orton vs. GUNTHER At WWE King & Queen Of The Ring

GUNTHER defeated Randy Orton to win the finals of the King of the Ring tournament at the WWE King & Queen of the Ring pay-per-view event last Saturday.

Despite both of Orton’s shoulders not being down, GUNTHER won the match via pinfall as the referee counted the pin. WWE Chief Creative Officer Triple H later confirmed the referee’s decision as final.

Fightful is reporting that individuals within WWE have stated that the match’s finishing sequence was not intentional, suggesting a botched finish.

With the victory, GUNTHER was crowned the new King of the Ring and became the #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship currently held by Damian Priest.

GUNTHER is now set to face the winner of Priest vs. Drew McIntyre, who will be competing for the title at WWE Clash at the Castle 2024 in Scotland next month.

GUNTHER will compete for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE SummerSlam 2024 on Saturday, August 3. The event will be held at the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio.
