Bayley turned heel in 2019 after years as a babyface, but the reaction fans gave her before she ‘snapped’ left the Hugger close to tears.
On a recent edition of the “Insight” podcast, Bayley discussed how fans were already turning on her before she became a villain. She said,
“I don’t know why they were booing me. I was almost in tears. I remember Mercedes came out because she was taking my spot at SummerSlam and … we looked at each other and she was like, ‘Man, f**k these people.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah!’ Because she could see that I felt so terrible about myself.”
Bayley turned heel by attacking Becky Lynch, though at the time her character insisted that nothing had changed and that the fans still loved her.
By the end of the year, Bayley fully embraced the heel role with a new look and by slicing apart the ‘Bayley Buddies’ that had been a part of her entrance.
After years as a heel, Bayley turned face in early 2024 by splitting from Damage CTRL and would later capture the WWE Women’s Championship.
