On a recent edition of his “Hall of Fame” podcast, Booker T spoke about the recent passing of Black Bart, who was Booker’s mentor. He said,
“Black Bart was a guy who I got a chance to spend a lot of time with in the Dallas, Texas Sportatorium [at] Global Wrestling Federation. I got a chance to watch Black Bart before I ever get a chance to meet him or wrestle against him or anything like that.
“Losing Black Bart, for me, that was one that really hit me hard. When I found out the news, it was one that really touched me in a way to where it’s like wow, you see your mortality, but somebody like Black Bart, he was like a mentor.”
Booker T added that Bart spent a lot of time teaching him and Stevie Ray during the early days of their careers, especially in Global Wrestling Federation.
The pair became three-time GWF North American Tag Team Champions before moving on to WCW where Harlem Heat became even bigger stars.
In addition to being a mentor to Booker T, Bart was the trainer of WWE Hall of Famer JBL. Click here to find the Texan’s tribute to the late wrestler.
