Nikki Garcia (Nikki Bella) filed to divorce her husband, Artem Chigvintsev, this past Wednesday, just weeks after he was arrested for domestic violence.
The divorce filing came after an incident on August 29, when Artem was arrested for felony domestic battery to a spouse or cohabitant. This date is also listed as the couple’s official separation date.
Artem initially called 911 for medical assistance but later canceled the request. Despite this, authorities arrived and took him into custody. Although no formal charges have been filed, The Napa County Sheriff has referred the case to the district attorney.
Nikki’s decision to file for divorce was not unexpected, as she had been seen without her wedding ring and had been actively seeking legal representation before officially filing.
Carlos Villatoro, the spokesperson for the Napa County D.A., mentioned that their office is currently examining the case. Still, a decision regarding Artem’s charges hasn’t been reached yet.
Entertainment Tonight is reporting that Brie Garcia (Brie Bella) expressed deep concern for her sister and Matteo. She firmly believes that “any sort of violence does not fly.” Nikki is reportedly feeling “scared and rattled” by the alleged assault.
Artem has been staying at a friend’s house instead of the family residence. Nikki is currently living at their home with their 4-year-old son, Matteo. She aims for full custody of Matteo but is open to allowing her husband visitation rights.
Chigvintsev’s arraignment is currently set for November 4.
