Brooks Jensen (Ben Buchanan) Now A “Free Agent” Effective Immediately

Brooks Jensen is now a free agent as of July 21, 2024. Well, he’s at least claiming to be on Twitter, as this isn’t quite so cut and dry.

For the past several months, after splitting away from Josh Briggs and Fallon Henley, all three WWE Superstars have had their struggles. But while Briggs has won some matches and Henley keeps moving up the pecking order in the NXT singles division, Jensen hasn’t had any positive momentum whatsoever.

In recent weeks, this has led to him basically losing his mind, posting drinking binges on social media, talking about leaving the company, accusing Shawn Michaels of interfering with his Twitter account, and even popping up in the background of NXT trying to mess with the commentary team. In fact, he was even “arrested” during this week’s episode.

The latest entry in this intriguing saga is a tweet from Jensen, who now goes by his real name of Ben Buchanan on Twitter, wherein he stated that he’s now a free agent and his non-compete clause with WWE is up. He wrote,

“First off I just want to say sorry.. I’m sorry for how I’ve behaved myself on here and I’m deeply sorry for making an ass out of myself. As you have heard, today I’m no longer with the WWE as my non compete clause is officially up. This has been one hell of a ride and I’m forever thankful and grateful for the friendship this line of work has brought and for letting meet my future wife. So with that being said, thank you all for supporting me and being here with me through theses times but today is only the beginning for the future of Ben Buchanan.”

Of course, Fightful Select is reporting that this is indeed still a storyline, and that it will continue with Jensen/Buchanan wrestling on independent shows outside of WWE NXT.

Author’s POV: I’m loving this. Not only is it something we don’t see often, but they’re going about it in a frenetic way that blurs the lines and helps make many fans think it is entirely real. Considering there’s this TNA crossover going on, I’ve specifically written about how Jensen is perfect for this role and should go there. I’m hoping there’s no truth to him leaving, as I’ve liked his work so far, and I’m excited to see how this continues to play out.
