Charlotte Flair recently joined Julian Edelman on his “Games with Names” podcast, where the two revisited major milestones in Flair’s career — including the road to the historic WrestleMania 35 main event.
The conversation touched on Survivor Series 2018 and how it played into the lead-up to the triple threat match featuring Flair, Ronda Rousey, and Becky Lynch — the first time women headlined WrestleMania. Flair emphasized how rare that moment was and expressed doubt that it will be repeated unless WWE returns to a one-night format for WrestleMania. She said,
“It was the main event of only one night. Now we have two nights… so it’s a big deal. You get two chances to headline. But being the main event on THE night? That’s a different level. That won’t happen again unless WrestleMania goes back to one night.”
She continued, “We wouldn’t have main evented WrestleMania without Ronda — no question. She brought outside credibility, a new audience, and this aura that added legitimacy to what we were building. Whether people thought she could wrestle or not didn’t matter — she was Ronda Rousey. She caught on fast and helped take us to the next level. I’m grateful for that. I hated our WrestleMania 35 match. Ronda liked it — I didn’t. Especially the ending. But the story? The story leading up to it was insane, and that part, I did love.”
