Fightful Select has shared an update on the rivalry between Bayley and Damage CTRL as well as the plans for the Women’s Title match between Bayley and IYO SKY at WrestleMania 40.
The split in Damage CTRL was planned out for months, as far back as when Charlotte Flair previously returned to the ring in late 2022.
While fans previously speculated that Mercedes Mone would return to help Bayley in her feud, that was reportedly never the working plan by the WWE creative team.
Instead, members of the creative team initially had an idea for Charlotte being the one to aid Bayley in her battle against Damage CTRL when it came time for the split and Bayley’s eventual face turn.
However, Charlotte suffering a torn ACL injury on the Road To WrestleMania 40 shelved those plans.
A source within WWE noted that if Mercedes Mone signed with WWE and returned to the company, that might have changed creative plans for the feud.
However, the working plan never included Mone, and the contract negotiations between WWE and the former Sasha Banks didn’t get far enough along for the creative team to start developing creative pitches for the angle.
Mone signed with AEW last month, debuting at AEW Dynamite: Big Business.
