Cody Rhodes remains our Undisputed WWE Universal Champion after successfully retaining his title over Kevin Owens in their ladder match at the 2025 Royal Rumble pay-per-view event.
As the third bout of the night, the two former friends had a brutal battle with Cody’s title and the Winged Eagle belt Owens had stolen at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event suspended above the ring. At one point, it almost seemed like the match would be called a no-contest after both Owens and Rhodes crashed hard onto a ladder from a fisherman’s buster, prompting officials and Sami Zayn to come out to check up on them.
Ultimately, The American Nightmare would slam Owens through a ladder on the outside with an Alabama Slam, giving Rhodes an opportunity to climb the ladder and retrieve both titles to secure himself as the champion heading into WrestleMania season.
