DDP On Turning On Kevin Nash & Signing New Legends Deal, Barry Horowitz Hates ‘Jobber’ Term

Barry Horowitz dislikes the term “jobber,” and he recently shared his reasons.

The veteran wrestler, primarily recognized for his role as enhancement talent in WWE, appeared on a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, where he expressed pride in his career but mentioned his discomfort with the commonly used term.

Horowitz said, “First of all, the jobber…it’s a degrading name in my eyes. I know it’s wrestling jargon, I know all about that. Nothing wrong with that. And then you’ve got some of the fans using it because they think they’re behind the curtain and they know everything, which is not true, they’re just reading this online or hearing it from different people.”

He continued, “No, I’ve never liked that name. It’s degrading, it’s dumb, it’s ignoring. Enhancement is the word, or, like Tim Horner once told me, ‘Hey Barry, you and I are star makers.’ I said ‘Wow, I never thought of it that way.’”

Diamond Dallas Page reminisced about the pivotal moment in WCW when he betrayed Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, which propelled his career forward.

On the January 13th, 1997 episode of Nitro, DDP declined an invitation to join the nWo, appearing to accept Hall and Nash’s proposal but then striking Hall with a Diamond Cutter and throwing Nash out of the ring. He reflected on that moment and discussed his involvement with the latest WWE 2K24 DLC in a recent interview with “Undisputed Substack.”

You can check out some highlights from the interview below:

On turning on Hall & Nash in January of 1997: “Let me tell the behind-the-scenes story. I was so down about the booking committee not seeing me past the bottom to the middle of the mid-card. I was bummed. It was time for me to leave. I told myself, ‘It’s time to go.’ Then I came up with that idea, and I went straight to the big man… I was about to leave the building and head to Asheville, North Carolina with Ice Train when I ran the idea past Kevin. Kev says, ‘I love it. I want to take the Diamond Cutter, too.’”

On Hall taking the Diamond Cutter in the segment: “I still remember Nash looking at me and saying, ‘You don’t think Scott wants to pay you back?’ Then he goes, ‘You created his look. You got him a job and talked to him when nobody would return his call. His wife was pregnant with his kid. You don’t think he wants to return that to you?’ I still asked Scott if it was OK. Scott said he loved it, too.”

On being part of the new WWE 2K24 DLC pack with Lex Luger, The Great Muta & Curt Hennig: “Lex Luger finally being recognized again makes me so grateful. The Great Muta, one of the greatest on any continent, and Curt Hennig, who I managed in the AWA. A decade later, we’re wrestling at Starrcade ’97–and Hennig put me over. That’s the night Sting beat Hogan, which is what the people wanted. Wrestling was so hot. We were number one.”

On Cody Rhodes’ rise to the top of WWE: “Cody had the vision. He saw it. People who say, ’I’ll see it when I believe it,’ they don’t see s*it. The people who say, ‘I believe it because I see it,’ they’re the visionaries. When I look at 2K24 with Cody Rhodes on the cover, and it’s the hottest video game in a world dominated by video games, I think of 10 years ago when Cody was seeing a vision of himself holding that world title. Cody is a visionary. I love being part of this [WWE 2K24] with him.”

Diamond Dallas Page renewed his Legends Deal with WWE and expressed his excitement about rejoining the company.

As was reported last month, DDP inked a new WWE Legends Deal and he spoke about his renewed association in a recent interview with Bleacher Report.

You can check out some highlights from the interview below:

On being back with the company: “I’m proud to be working with them again. I never wanted to go anywhere the first time, but I had to help the kid whose father helped me. Without Dusty Rhodes there is no Diamond Dallas Page. I had to help that young man who was on his own vision quest. He didn’t ask for my help, I just came to him and said, ‘Hey, let us start filming you. Let’s start doing stuff. Costs you nothing. Let us just start documenting your journey here.’ And where did it end up? Right back in the WWE, bigger than ever, on the cover of 2K24. You can’t make this stuff up.”

On being in WWE 2K24 as DLC: “I’m excited to be here all the way around. It’s not just the game, it’s the whole thing. How you’re treated there at a pay-per-view—and I’ve been to many over the last few years—it’s gotten better and better. And now, it’s just a whole different respect level for the legends because of Triple H. You gotta put it all back to the guy whose face is on it, him and Nick Khan, it’s really important to them that these guys are appreciated. And that’s all I think anybody wants.”
