Drew McIntyre has revealed why he stormed out of Survivor Series 2023, mere moments before the shocking return of CM Punk to WWE.
Immediately after he and The Judgment Day lost in WarGames, McIntyre headed to the back and was seen backstage leaving the arena.
Shortly after, Punk made his return to WWE after close to a decade away and months after the Chicago-Made star’s termination from AEW.
On a recent edition of the “Insight” podcast, McIntyre shared that his early exit was because he was genuinely angry at the time. He said,
“Yeah, I was pissed off, and I chose to leave the arena because I’m not going to cause an incident that’s going to affect everybody’s mood afterwards and the guys in the match that worked so hard. People asked me about Seth’s and my reaction; maybe that was Seth’s legit reaction, but to me, I couldn’t have stood out there if somebody’s that close to me that I don’t like that much. I wouldn’t stand and swear and have people hold me back. I would have walked right up to him and punched him in the face, so I chose to leave the building.”
The reaction from Seth Rollins which McIntyre alluded to saw Rollins curse and lunge in Punk’s direction but was held back by those around him.
McIntyre and Punk have feuded for the majority of 2024 with both men holding a win over the other at a WWE pay-per-view event.
On this week’s episode of WWE RAW, McIntyre attacked Punk and destroyed his bracelet. A match between the two is expected to take place at the WWE Bad Blood pay-per-view event next month.
