It took longer than expected for Goldberg and Roman Reigns to face off, and the WWE Hall of Famer isn’t a fan of the eventual match they had.
Goldberg and Reigns were set to face off at WrestleMania 36 before Reigns pulled out of the event due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pair eventually faced off at Elimination Chamber 2022 with Reigns now the Tribal Chief who would defeat the Hall of Famer to retain the WWE Universal Title.
On a recent edition of the “Insight” podcast, Goldberg shared that he is not a fan of the eventual match between the two. He said,
“It sucks. I had f*cking COVID three weeks before I was asked to do it. It was horrible. No, it was a favor. You know, it was my job. I’m not gonna say no, I’ve never said no, really. And I was asked to wrestle twice a year. They were caught between a rock and a hard place and I was their answer. I feel like I did him a favor and that’s why I thought that the favor would be reciprocated. But it is what it is.
“I’ll never forget the phone call I got when I was in bed. I couldn’t even breathe and I felt like ass. I couldn’t even get up. [Vince says] You can make Saudi in three weeks? Sure I’ll be there You promise me a match after that. [Vince said] Sure. I should have done better. That’s my fault.”
Despite this alleged promise, Goldberg would not receive another match in WWE after the showdown with Reigns, and his contract ended in December 2022.
Reigns would remain as WWE Universal Champion until WrestleMania 40 in April of this year where he lost the title, now unified with the WWE Championship, to Cody Rhodes.
