The launch of the WWE Network in 2014 had a profound effect on the future of entertainment on streaming, according to JBL.

The service, first announced in 2011, saw WWE move its vast library of content to streaming for the low price of $9.99 a month.

On a recent edition of the “What Were They Thinking?” podcast, JBL reflected on how WWE’s network influenced Netflix. He said,

“Vince was sitting there trying to build a model, refigure the model, figure all that out. We were so far ahead of the curve… it was almost a bad decision. If it hadn’t been for Vince, Kevin Dunn, and that entire incredible management team, that would have never worked because we were way too far ahead of the curve. And a lot of what you see with Netflix now is because that model was built off the streaming… off that $9.99.”

JBL pointed out that following the success of the WWE Network, sports bodies like the NBA, NFL, and MLB launched their own streaming services.

Last month, WWE ended the WWE Network, with content now being available on either Peacock or Netflix.

JBL recently named three wrestlers he’d wished he’d had the chance to wrestle. Click here to find out who is on the Texan’s list.
