John Cena is no stranger to having catchphrases in WWE, but Mr. ‘You Can’t See Me’ isn’t a fan of the idea of Cody Rhodes’ mantra of ‘Finish the Story.’

Speaking at the WWE RAW post-show press conference following the brand’s launch on Netflix, Cena shared his take on the phrase. He said,

“I don’t like the term ‘finishing the story’ because there’s always another night. If anybody’s story is getting finished this year, it’s mine, because I’m going to be done after this year. I think it was Cody’s way to say, ‘I’m going to get this done and I’m going to do it.’ So, anybody who says they’re going to do it, does it, and does it well, I’ve got to tip my cap to them.”

Rhodes began discussing finishing the story after his return to WWE in April 2022, as he wanted to fulfill a promise to his late father Dusty.

Rhodes’ story was eventually finished at WrestleMania 40 when he ended the 1,316-day reign of Roman Reigns as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

In 2023, Rhodes shared that he regretted coming up with the phrase given that the ‘Finish the Story’ mantra has become a meme among fans.

Cena and Rhodes could collide in John’s farewell tour, with reports of a match between the two at WrestleMania 41 in April.
