As we’ve been reporting here on eWn, WWE is considering a matchup between John Cena and Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes for WrestleMania 41.
However, this match has been in the works for some time.
Fightful Select is reporting that they were informed as early as mid-November that the plan for Rhodes vs. Cena was set, especially after it became uncertain whether The Rock would be available for WrestleMania 41.
WWE’s original plan was for The Rock to compete against Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, as was teased following WrestleMania 40.
Before Rhodes returned from his injury and won the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match, some individuals close to him wished for the match to happen at WrestleMania 39.
The report also states that there are existing WrestleMania 41 plans for “a solid portion” of the WWE roster, along with some alternative options.
