The September 6th edition of WWE SmackDown marked the final episode to be broadcast on FOX, setting up next week’s premiere episode on the USA Network.
Various storylines and matches took place during the show, including a segment that set Cody Rhodes up to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa inside a steel cage next week.
Last night’s episode of WWE SmackDown also featured Giovanni Vinci’s return.
In recent weeks, WWE had been building up Vinci’s return through vignettes. True to the hype, the former Imperium member made an impressive entrance while his opponent, Apollo Crews, stood in the ring. As Vinci removed his entrance attire, the bell rang while his back was turned to Apollo.
Crews took advantage of the situation and secured a quick victory with a roll-up pinfall.
WrestleVotes is reporting that “key” figures in WWE Creative utterly “hated” the match booking.
I’m told there are a few “key” figures within creative that absolutely hated the direction on the Giovanni Vinci angle tonight. #SmackDown
