We recently conducted an exclusive interview with Olympic Gold Medalist and WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.

During the interview, he spoke with comedian Casey Salengo about a variety of topics, including how he won an Olympic Gold Medal despite his broken neck. The full interview will be released at a later date. Here’s what Kurt Angle had to say on the topic:

On how Angle won an Olympic Gold Medal with a broken neck:

“It came down to straight-up bravery. I was willing to sacrifice my body and possibly my life, to wrestle. I was told by doctors that I couldn’t wrestle and that if I land on my head again, I would be paralyzed or even dead. But I found a doctor that was able to help me get through the Olympic trials and the Olympic games.

And what he did is he came up with this idea of shooting 12 different shots of Novocaine into my neck five minutes before each one of my matches. He said, you’re not going to feel any pain. So you’re going to forget your neck is broken. You’ll be fine. But an hour after the match is over, you’re going to be in excruciating pain. Cause the Novocaine is going to wear off and you’re going to be hurting pretty badly.

So, if you can deal with that, and I said, yeah, let’s do it. And it worked. It worked for me. I won the Olympic trials, and we did the same thing at the Olympics and I won the Olympic games. That’s all. I came out on top, and I can not thank anybody but the Lord himself for it.”
