Steroids played no role in the final actions of Chris Benoit, despite what some may claim, according to former WWE Superstar Maven Huffman.

Benoit took the lives of his wife Nancy and their son Daniel in June 2007 and his name has not been uttered on WWE TV since then.

Shortly after, many tried to attribute Benoit’s actions to steroid abuse, including Nancy Grace during a heated interview with Chris Jericho.

On a recent edition of the “False Finish” podcast, Maven refuted the notion that Benoit’s actions could be blamed on steroids. He said,

“The moment someone blames steroids on what he did, I shut them down immediately. Steroids had nothing to do [with it]. Steroids is an easy way, and whenever you see somebody say ‘Roid rage,’ that’s an easy way for someone to excuse someone being an a*****e. That’s it.

“Chris Benoit suffered from brain damage. Hands down. And I think they’ve said his brain was that of an 80-year-old. It’s just…you never know what it’s going to take to make someone snap, to take them over that edge. And what he did there in Georgia, it’s unforgivable. Completely unforgivable.”

On his YouTube channel, Maven has discussed using steroids while competing in WWE and his own battle with substances that he’s overcome.

Maven teamed with Benoit in 2004, including as part of that year’s Survivor Series pay-per-view event where the pair won their Survivor Series Elimination main event.
