GUNTHER defeated Jey Uso to become a two-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion during Monday’s episode of RAW.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the decision was made by Triple H, who planned for GUNTHER to defend the title at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12.
The plan has been for GUNTHER to face Goldberg in the latter’s retirement match during that event, and Triple H decided it should be a title match.
The idea has always been for GUNTHER vs. Goldberg to air on NBC, as WWE will compete against AEW All In: Texas 2025 and wants to feature a marquee match on free television.
Goldberg is set to appear on Monday Night RAW in Green Bay, although WWE has yet to announce his return.
