Could WWE’s partnership with TNA Wrestling be part of a bigger plan for WWE to purchase the smaller promotion? Some close to the matter believe so.
Earlier this month, WWE announced a multi-year partnership with TNA that will see competitors ‘cross the line’ and wrestle for the other promotion.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shared that some believe WWE has the end goal of acquiring TNA. He said,
“All of their shows are on Netflix internationally, they can’t put anything on those stations so they want to make sure it’s not AEW on those stations. So that’s one of the many reasons that they’re doing this [TNA partnership].
“I know people who are close to the situation think it will end up with WWE owning [TNA]. Others think it’s going to be a disaster because it always is at the end, every company WWE works with always end up worse off.”
Tonight’s edition of TNA iMPACT! will see NXT Tag Team Champions Nathan Frazer and Axiom defend their titles against The Rascalz.
The match will mark the first time NXT titles have been defended in TNA. Cora Jade has also set her sights on the TNA Knockouts World Championship.
New TNA World Champion Joe Hendry is also interested in the partnership as he has challenged WWE icon John Cena to a match.
