Kayla, who has been with WWE since 2016, announced her departure as a backstage interviewer nearly a week ago. She has dispelled rumors about potentially joining AEW, stating on Twitter that she is stepping away from professional wrestling and emphasizing that if she intended to continue in the industry, she would not have left WWE, the biggest wrestling promotion in the world.
After initially working as an NXT ring announcer, Kayla transitioned to a backstage interviewer role on the main roster in May 2017.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that negotiations for a contract renewal were underway, but Kayla ultimately decided not to sign a new deal.
Kayla’s final WWE appearance will occur on tonight’s episode of SmackDown at Madison Square Garden.
