Zelina Vega’s recent victory on WWE SmackDown, where she defeated Chelsea Green to become the new WWE Women’s United States Champion, reportedly caught much of the locker room off guard.
Pwinsider is reporting that the title change was kept closely guarded, with only a select few aware of the plan ahead of time. Most WWE talent and staff were unaware of the decision until Vega scored the three-count live on air.
Backstage reactions were described as genuine surprise, as the finish had been kept tightly under wraps to preserve the moment’s impact.
Vega’s win ended Green’s 131-day reign as the inaugural Women’s U.S. Champion and marked a career milestone for Vega, who captured her first singles title in WWE. Despite interference attempts from Piper Niven and Alba Fyre, both were removed from ringside by the official, allowing Vega to capitalize with a Code Red and earn the pinfall.
