Shawn Michaels Shares Why He Decided To Join WWE NXT

The ‘vibe’ of WWE’s Performance Center in Orlando, Florida helped encourage Shawn Michaels into his current role as the head of WWE NXT.

In a recent interview with SportsNet, Michaels discussed his decision-making process when agreeing to become the creative visionary behind WWE NXT. He said,

“It’s like everything in my life, I haven’t tried or forced a lot of things to happen; I’ve sort of just gone where I feel like I’ve found the most enjoyment of what I do. We came down here on vacation with the family from Texas, going to Disney World and stuff like that… I swung by the Performance Center, and just the vibe in the building; I don’t know, something that had not been in my heart for, I dunno, six or seven years after I retired, just sprung back up again.”

Michaels’ role with WWE NXT has seen the two-time Hall of Famer move to Orlando. On the show, Michaels recalled speaking to his wife about the move. He said,

“She looked at me and said, ‘Okay, that’s the look. She said, ‘I know what’s going on… I have to be honest, I didn’t think it would take this long… I was surprised that you walked away so easily… If you want to pack up and move from Texas, I’m on board.’”

Michaels’ official role with WWE is as Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative. He started in NXT as a trainer in 2016 and began running the show in 2021.

Tonight’s episode of WWE NXT will be another major show, with many believing a number-one contenders battle royal will feature talent from outside NXT and possibly outside WWE.
