Dusty Rhodes may not have reached the top of WWE, but Teddy Long believes it’d be foolish of any promotion to keep Rhodes from that role.
On a recent edition of the “Wrestling Time Machine” podcast, Long questioned why any promoter would not want Dusty as their top guy. He said,
“Why wouldn’t you want him. Dusty is a genius. I mean he gave me my first job and I started working right there in the Carolinas when he turned it all around. The Four Horsemen all that stuff man. So, why wouldn’t you want a guy with that of knowledge in his age.”
While Rhodes captured the NWA Worlds Championship, he never officially held the WWE title, a fact that played into Cody Rhodes’ WWE return in 2022.
Dusty was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007 by his sons Cody and Dustin. Cody would make his WWE debut later that same year.
After his career in the ring ended, Dusty worked for WWE as a writer and later ran NXT before his passing in 2015 at the age of 69.
