WWE’s long-discussed NXT Europe brand remains in development, but uncertainty continues to surround its timeline and scale.

Following a recent WWE tryout in the UK, Fightful Select is reporting that talent involved were reportedly informed that NXT Europe is “still happening,” though no concrete details were provided. While some prospects were offered contracts and others encouraged to stay in touch, the tryout didn’t appear to be directly tied to the rollout of the new brand.

One former NXT UK talent noted that WWE has been offering the same vague assurance about NXT Europe since shutting down the NXT UK brand. Another was more blunt, saying they’ll “believe it when they see it.”

Some European indie promoters believe WWE’s renewed interest may be a strategic response to AEW’s growing foothold in the region, particularly following two straight years of Wembley Stadium shows and events like AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door heading to the U.K. While there’s some concern over talent being poached, many believe the European indie scene can continue to thrive — as it did following the closure of NXT UK and the pandemic slowdown.

Among talent, NXT Europe is still viewed as a promising opportunity, especially if it comes with better pay and conditions than the often-criticized NXT UK deals, which left many needing second jobs. French wrestlers in particular are reportedly wary, concerned that the momentum of their local scene could be disrupted by a sudden talent drain.

While some remain hopeful, many in the U.K. and French wrestling communities remain skeptical about whether NXT Europe will actually come to fruition any time soon.
