The WWE NXT Universe made their feelings loud and clear this week.
Chants of “Fire Def Rebel! Fire Def Rebel!” rang out through the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida during the June 17 episode of NXT on The CW Network, all in response to Jordynne Grace’s new entrance theme.
Grace addressed the backlash on Twitter, tweeting out the following,
“I know what the streets are saying, but y’all better suspend that disbelief and vibe with it, GOT IT?”
Previously, Grace had used her own personally owned theme music during her TNA run and early WWE NXT appearances. However, that track was recently swapped out due to WWE’s renewed focus on retaining full ownership of any music used for its performers.
Fightful Select is reporting that one additional factor in the change was the siren that opens Grace’s original song — something that overlapped with Bron Breakker’s entrance music, which also begins with a siren as a tribute to Scott Steiner. WWE opted to avoid redundancy and prioritize Breakker’s signature sound.
Interestingly, sources say artists like Metro Boomin and other major names have shown interest in crafting entrance themes for WWE. But negotiations have reportedly hit snags, as many of these artists want to retain the rights to their music — something WWE typically avoids.
