Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to accomplish a remarkable feat at the box office this weekend with the anticipated release of his latest film, “Moana 2.”
If the film debuts at #1, Johnson will achieve a rare milestone in Hollywood by having two films reach the top spot in the same month.
His previous film, “Red One,” opened a few weeks ago to a strong performance, earning $32.1 million. Expectations for “Moana 2” are even higher, with projections suggesting it could earn upwards of $200 million over the upcoming five-day weekend.
Deadline is reporting that this would be an unmatched achievement, as no other actor has accomplished this feat of two #1 films in the same month.
While some actors, such as Leonardo DiCaprio, have come close — appearing in both “Gangs of New York” and “Catch Me If You Can” in December 2002 — neither of those films reached #1 due to competition from “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.”
Other actors, such as Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Hanks, have had films released within a month of each other, but not in the same calendar month.
