During the D23 event on Friday night, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson surprised the audience by unveiling the latest trailer for Disney’s “Moana 2” animated film.
The film, set to be released in the United States on November 27, 2024, follows the success of Moana in 2016. Moreover, Johnson is involved in a live-action Moana adaptation set for release in July 2026.
The plot for Moana 2 revolves around Moana and Maui embarking on a new voyage three years after the original film, accompanied by a crew of unlikely seafarers. Prompted by a call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana journeys to the far seas of Oceania and into perilous, long-lost waters, promising an unprecedented adventure.
Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, the film stars Auli’i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui. Returning stars include Rachel House as Moana’s Grandma, Tala; Temuera Morrison as Moana’s father, Chief Tui; and Nicole Scherzinger as Moana’s mother, Sina. Hualālai Chung, David Fane, and Rose Matafeo appear as Moni, Kele, and Loto.
