In a recent interview with Uncrowned, Trick Williams discussed his ascent in WWE NXT and the advice he received from John Cena.
Trick is currently a two-time WWE NXT World Champion.
You can check out some highlights from the interview below:
On realizing how much he loved being a wrestler: “I loved it, man. I knew off rip — this is made for me. The combination of athleticism, being able to talk, being a competitor, being an entertainer, and I get paid for this?”
On the current crop of NXT standouts: “Melo, Tony [D’Angelo], Bron, the Creed Brothers, Grayson Waller, Dragon Lee — man, we all hungry. And don’t get twisted. We like each other, but we compete. As you can see, Bron and Melo, when they were both champs, they both wanted to be the main event. And shoot, you saw me and Melo, I wanted to be the main event … But all of us, we want to be great. This crop right here, this group of people right here, [will change] wrestling’s face forever.”
On advice he got from John Cena: “We’ve had multiple talks, but I would say the most important thing I’ve learned from him is being able to listen and perform at the same time. He knows what every sound means, what every sound means that he should be, how he should respond and react to everything. … But just being able to listen and react accordingly to what the people are giving you, I think, is the most [important] thing that I’ve ever heard.”
In a recent interview with Metro, Jey Uso remembered the iconic WWE SmackDown segment when Sami Zayn coined the term “Ucey.”
According to Jey, the segment was enjoyable yet embarrassing.
He said, “The Ucey segment, it’s probably one of the dopest, fun and coolest segments on TV, but it was also the most embarrassing for me, because I was just stuck laughing on TV. There was a couple of times I just had to turn away from the camera, like I had to because I just had a big smile, man. If you really look at it, Roman [Reigns] was trying to poke at me, to crack me more. If you look at that segment, me and Sami Zayn had a promo before that, which probably could have been its own segment, and then it evolved. It went from being so heavy to being light. We gave everyone every feeling in that segment. It was just the best! I don’t think that’ll ever, ever, ever, ever be replicated again. I started to think to myself, I’m professional, you know? I need to chill out. But, man, it was so hard to keep a straight face with him and my brothers.”
