Filming segments with Vince McMahon proved to be a costly endeavor for Kurt Angle, who struggled to keep a straight face on the job.
In 2001, Angle, McMahon, and Steve Austin often shared segments together including singing together and sharing presents.
On a recent edition of the “Notsam Wrestling” podcast, Angle recalled cracking up filming the hilarious segments and McMahon’s stern warning. He said,
“Vince (McMahon) said, ‘Hey, we’re going to do these pre-tapes, but last week was a disaster because you guys kept breaking characters. You guys kept laughing. So, this week, if you break character, you get fined $2,000.’ So, I got fined $8,000 because I broke character four different times. I started getting serious. I was like, ‘I can’t do that anymore, I’m going to lose all my money.’ So, I wouldn’t break character anymore, I don’t know how I was able to do it.”
These segments came to an end when Austin betrayed the WWF to join The Alliance at that year’s InVasion pay-per-view event.
Angle would join The Alliance later that year but revealed himself to be a mole at Survivor Series 2001 where the WWF defeated The Alliance.
