On this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Jeff Cobb was reintroduced as JC Mateo as the latest ally of Solo Sikoa after making his WWE debut at Backlash: St. Louis.
On a recent edition of his “BroDown” podcast, Russo took issue with how WWE presented Mateo in his first appearance on weekly TV. He said,
“Here’s the thing. Again, bro, these are supposed to be stars. They are on television, they are supposed to be stars. So, this is the first time, if you did not watch Backlash, this is the first time you’re seeing JC Mateo.
“So, he’s got a regular guy’s name, and he’s dressed in Black. This is the presentation of a star? This is the first impression this guy is getting on television and he’s dressed in black and has every man’s name. What?”
Before WWE, Jeff Cobb made his name in New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he was a former IWGP Tag Team Champion and NEVER Openweight Champion.
After departing New Japan, Cobb teased on social media that he was retired before making his WWE debut by assisting Sikoa and Jacob Fatu.
