WWE has a high level of confidence in Damian Priest these days.
While Drew McIntyre has been dealing with lingering injuries, sources say his absence from WWE television is actually due to his contract situation, not any physical issue. Interestingly, it was Priest — not McIntyre — who raised more concern internally during their recent rivalry.
Fightful Select is reporting that Priest has been working through several injuries over the course of his feud with McIntyre. Despite being banged up, he continued to compete, earning backstage respect for pushing through the pain.
One source mentioned that competing at WWE SummerSlam is especially important to Priest. The two-night pay-per-view event takes place August 2 and 3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey — a “home game” of sorts for the former World Heavyweight Champion.
Creative plans currently call for Priest to have a major role at SummerSlam, with internal discussions positioning him as a central figure at “The Biggest Party of the Summer.”
