In the 1970s, he joined the World Wide Wrestling Federation, winning the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship and WWWF United States Championship.

A second run with the by-now World Wrestling Federation in the 1980s saw him win the WWF Intercontinental Championship and WWF World Tag Team Championship, establishing him as the promotion’s first Triple Crown Champion. Morales retired from professional wrestling in 1987.

A popular champion, Morales enjoyed particular appeal with his native Puerto Ricans and the wider Latino audience. The first Latino to hold a world heavyweight championship, Morales’ combined reign as WWWF World Heavyweight Champion remains among the longest in history.

He also holds the record for most days as Intercontinental Champion. Morales was inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum two decades later.
