AEW Dynamite 5/8/20 Results

We begin with a recap of last week’s main event.

Cody vs. Joey Janela

Cody wins the match with the Cross Rhodes.

Winner: Cody

After the match, Cody shakes Joey’s hand in respect.

We get a recap of Nyla Rose winning the Women’s Championship and potential challengers to the titles such as inner: Penelope Ford and Britt Baker.

Nyla Rose laughed at the video package and he asks Tony who he thinks is the most dominant woman in the division. She cuts him off and says it’s her, it always has been her and it will always be her. She orders him to do his job while she does hers in the ring.

Nyla Rose vs. Kenzie Page

Nyla wins with ease with a trio of powerbombs.

Winner: Nyla Rose

Hikaru Shida and other women from the division stare at Nyla.

We get a MJF promo. He says that he’s seeing a lot of wrestlers claiming they’re the next big thing, but being the big thing is different. After being on national television for 6 months, he’s the guy but no one wants to admit it because they hate his guts. To quite Cody, they move the goalpost. It’s because his haters are insecure because every top guy in his sport have to realize that 24 year old kid has taken their spot and equals ratings. He’s a prodigy and will be champion in the blink of an eye. He has more of the “it” factor in his pinkie than most do in their bodies.

This 24 year old isn’t Rock, Piper or Flair, but he’s something that the world has never been before. He’s good enough to miss time, he’s injury free and when he comes back, his throne will be waiting for him. A normal red chair he’s sitting on is replaced with a throne when he stands up. MJF will be back in action next week.

Shawn Spears recaps last week’s main event and says he blames one man for how the match went, and he blamed Cody. He says Cody could have stopped and thrown in the towel to stop the match, but he suggests he didn’t because he’s selfish and thinks he alone can carry the Rhodes legacy. Shawn also says Dustin’s career is over, and Cody has proven he can be cruel without even knowing it.

MJF is interviewed ringside and says everyone will be looking forward to seeing a real professional compete next week and credits Shawn Spears for calling out Cody Rhodes for who he really is. Spears says that MJF had the greatest comeback story ever, and MJF is so good he’s not just healthy, but he’s overhealed. Tony says that he’s been signed for Double or Nothing and MJF will be going up against Jungle Boy.

Jon Moxley vs. Frankie Kazarian

Moxley wins with the Paradigm Shift.

Winner: Jon Moxley

After the match, The Dark Order comes out and attacks Moxley. The rest of SCU comes out to help, but they get taken care of as well. Brodie Lee comes out and says that he’s just here to answer the bounty put out on him, and he says there’s no crowd to lift him up and none of their energy to spur him on. He’s not the same person he’s dealt with in the past. He is now a leader and makes lives extrodinary. If any of the Dark Order will stand up and sacrifice themselves for him, it will be glorious. And Lee says Moxley is in possession of something he wants and something he desires, the AEW World Championship.

Brodie officially challenges for the championship, but he doesn’t know if Moxley is reasonable. He doesn’t know if he’s an actor, a movie star, an MMA fighter, a rebel, or a scared fatherless boy from Cincinati. Whatever the case, he must answer his challenge or they will make him. Lee throws the microphone on the floor in his direction. Moxley says all Lee had to do was ask. He gets on his knees but Lee  kicks him back down. The Dark Order assualts him again.

We get a Brandi Rhodes promo. She has a message for Britt Baker. She says we don’t truly know her, and that she’s the Chief Brand Officer of AEW, and we must keep her name out of her mouth.

QT Marshall vs. Lance Archer

Before the match, Lance Archer walks around ringside and takes out Jason Cade. Lance Archer wins with the Black Out and then banging his head into the mat like last week.

Winner: Lance Archer

After the match, Britt Baker gives Brandi Rhodes a DDT on the outside and puts her in the ring. Jake Roberts comes out with a snake and places it over Brandi’s body.

MJF vs. Jungle Boy, Cody vs. Lance Archer for the TNT Championship, a Casino Ladder Match for an AEW Title shot and Jon Moxley vs. Brodie Lee for the AEW World Championship is made official for Double or Nothing.

Tazz interviews Darby Allin on his defeat at the hands of Cody. Tazz asks him how he feels, and Darby says nothing. Tazz says he’d love to help him out professional to professional. Allin simply walks away.

Brodie Lee vs. Christopher Daniels is announced for next week, and MJF returns. Jurassic Express vs. Best Friends will also take place. Jake Roberts and Lance Archer will be interviewd next week and Hikaru Shida vs. Penople Ford vs. Kris Statlander vs. Britt Baker in a fatal four way is made official and Jericho will compete as well.

Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara vs. Matt Hardy and Kenny Omega – Street Fight Tag Team Match

Before the match, Pineapple Pete takes a shot at Jericho.

Hardy and Omega run over Jericho and Sammy with golf carts, but eventually Jake Hager runs to play interference. He gives the Inner Circle the edge before Omega does a moonsault off a scissors lift. Santa and Ortiz come out and beat down Matt and Kenny as Matt is powerbombed through a table. Then, they take Omega to the golf cart and they powerbomb him on it. The Judas Effect by Jericho finishes Omega off for good.

Winners: Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara

After the match, the Inner Circle pose together with a sea of middle fingers.
