Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:

Buy In – Statlander vs. Hirsch

  • Starting off immediately with a match? I’m eating dinner, here. I thought I had some more time! (Bonus points to anyone who guesses what I’m eating.)
  • The first match is Statlander against Hirsch. Let’s see what happens.
  • Pretty generic enough match, but good enough to just get the crowd started.
  • Red Velvet is out to check up on Statlander after she got nailed in the head from the turnbuckle steel.

Tony Schiavone introduces someone to come out and we hear Kenny Omega’s music, only for Don Callis to come out, instead. He spoke about how the fans bled Omega dry. Adam Cole will make a great transitional champion after he beats Adam Page and will inevitably lose to Omega.

Buy In – Hook vs. Marshall

  • Hook is, to no surprise, totally over with the crowd.
  • Hook has his moments where he’s on the ropes, as he’s still a rookie, but the trainer makes a mistake and gets caught. Hook seals the deal with his submission for the win and simply walks back to the locker room.

Buy In – The House of Black vs. Death Triangle and Erick Redbeard

  • Erick Redbeard is one of those guys I honestly think is better off not being in AEW, but being in Impact Wrestling or NWA. If he’s going to sign with AEW, I don’t think his ceiling is particularly high. Frankly, it’s odd seeing him on the opposite end of this match. I’d have thought he would make more sense to be in The House of Black.
  • Penta’s flip into a Canadian Destroyer was awesome!
  • Once again, Malakai Black wins it for his team due to the mist in Redbeard’s eyes.

Chris Jericho vs. Eddie Kingston

  • I didn’t expect Kingston to get the jump on Jericho from the onset. That took me by surprise.
  • Soon into this, both guys are super reddish pink.
  • Jericho’s taken to pushing Aubrey Edwards, who pushes back.
  • Jericho kicks out of the spinning back fist.
  • Two more of those could do the trick, though. Actually, he gets the win by submission, instead! I got that prediction wrong.
  • After the match, Kingston offers a hand to Jericho, who refuses to shake it and walks off.

Three-Way AEW World Tag Team Championship Match

  • reDRagon’s theme song sucks. Imagine going from The Undisputed ERA’s theme to this generic blah piece.
  • We’re firmly in the “four against two” portion of this match. Sooner than later, this is going to break down, for sure. We’ll see reDRagon and The Young Bucks fighting, eventually.
  • To be honest, as much as this is fun, I think this would have been better without being a tornado match. It’s a little hectic, but not in the “unpredictable chaos way” and more in the “onslaught of things happening one after another without much real continuity.” I’m still having fun, though, of course.
  • Jungle Boy’s combo of a hurricanrana into a suplex was yet another great spot from tonight.
  • I thought Luchasaurus whiffed the kick before they said he kicked out what was in Jackson’s hand.
  • Tag champs retain by pinfall on Matt Jackson.

Face of the Revolution Ladder Match

  • Mr. Mayhem is totally my pick to win this.
  • According to JR, Keith Lee looks like a big ol’ refrigerator with a head on it. That’s a line.
  • Orange Cassidy is so good. Playing into how he’s not at all one of the big guys was funny.
  • Speaking of Cassidy, I loved him flipping up onto the ladder and trying to grab the brass ring. Great spot!
  • I don’t think Ricky Starks was supposed to land that way on the ladder from the power bomb. Hopefully, he’s okay.

Tony Schiavone has a special contract signing ready to go. Swerve Strickland is joining AEW. Strickland says “hey yo, the real is back” and he could go on and on about dream matches and championships. But he has a question for everyone. Who’s house? (the crowd comes back with “Swerve’s house!”) He says “I love you, too.”

AEW TBS Championship Match

  • This Kingfish guy is killing it on the guitar. Love it.
  • Yo, Jade Cargill’s Mortal Kombat outfit is awesome.
  • Starting the match off with a kiss? Okay.
  • Tay’s tornado DDT wasn’t quite there.
  • Even a steel chair to the face (kind of) isn’t enough to give Cargill enough of a deficit for Conti to capitalize with a pin.
  • The crowd’s sounding kind of dead for this. It’s not that bad, so that’s a shame.
  • I wouldn’t have pictured Cargill doing a frog splash as part of her repertoire.
  • 29-0.

Dog Collar Match

  • Terminator 2 is my favorite movie of all time and has been since I was like 4. This entrance from CM Punk is immediately getting me hyped.
  • I didn’t know this was what he had for Ring of Honor. That’s cool.
  • Punk’s back has noticeable chain link marks on it. Ouch.
  • Punk is a bloody mess with as crimson of a mask as you can get.
  • “Eat shit” chant. Love it.
  • They’re telling a story that the chain is stopping Punk from hitting the GTS. Big fan. That gives him an out if he loses this.
  • “You deserve it” chants when MJF is on the receiving end of the chain is great.
  • Every time I see thumbtacks, I immediately just say “nope.” Hell no. I wouldn’t even want to be the referee and potentially slap my hand down on the mat. Absolutely not.
  • Ouch…super plex onto the tacks. See! Referee Paul Turner has tacks in his hand, now, after one pinfall attempt.
  • MJF is calling out for Wardlow, who can’t seem to find the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
  • Punk hits a GTS. MJF falls onto the tacks. Wardlow coincidentally found the ring in his right pocket now and placed it down for Punk to get, instead. The fans go nuts!
  • MJF spits in Punk’s face. Punk nails him with the ring and gets the win.

AEW Women’s World Championship Match

  • I didn’t feel compelled to update this during the match, but I’ll give you my rundown. This was sloppy and boring. True, it was in a bad spot following the dog collar match, but man, the maneuvers here just felt slow and had less impact than they should have. The crowd was relatively dead and I was just waiting for it to end, but it took forever. These two had such a great match before and this one was like the total opposite.
  • I do like the new women’s world title, though. The other one looked like an egg.

Bryan Danielson vs. Jon Moxley

  • Someone in the crowd is chanting “Let’s go Jericho”, if I’m hearing correctly. What?
  • Let’s go, guys. Get my energy level back up.
  • Well, someone’s bleeding. Supposedly, Danielson. Maybe both.
  • I don’t know if it’s the Baker/Rosa match, the fact that this event is like a marathon, or this particular match, but I’m underwhelmed. This isn’t anything I feel someone needs to check out if they missed it. Hopefully, things turn around fast.
  • Oh hey. I liked that pin reversal to end the match. That was really good.
  • Post-finish, Mox and Bryan are still fighting. Referees and security are coming out to try to break them apart.
  • William Regal is out!!! He slaps both of them, brings them both together, and it looks like we’ve got ourselves a faction here after they shake hands.

Tornado Trios Tag Team Match

  • After everything else from earlier in the night, I don’t think this should have necessarily been a hardcore match. Granted, I didn’t think it needed to be on the card at all, but still. Unless they do something interesting enough to justify having this No DQ, I’m going to be skeptical.
  • Trash cans aren’t going to cut it, if that’s the case.
  • Nor will The Butcher and The Blade interfering.
  • Sammy’s Spanish Fly with Kassidy off the set through a table, though…that’s something. Guevara smacked his face on the one table. Hopefully, there isn’t a concussion in the mix or anything.
  • Sting jumping off a high spot through tables at 62 isn’t something I ever imagined would be a thing. We have that going on, but we never got Sting vs. Undertaker. What timeline is this?
  • Hardy wasn’t at all ready for the Coffin Drop there. But hey, the babyfaces still won, as predicted.

AEW World Championship Match

  • “We want Adam” and “this is Adam” chants are fun. I have “Adam won” on my notes right now, too.
  • We have reDRAgon ringside. When do The Young Bucks come out and start supporting Page?
  • Panama Sunrise and a shining wizard still aren’t good enough for Cole to get the win.
  • I guess just The Dark Order instead of The Young Bucks.
  • Cole gets 3 finger tips on the rope to break a pinfall from a Buckshot Lariat.
  • One more Buckshot gets the win and Page retains.
