Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:

Kickoff

  • So it took a grand total of 15 minutes for the Peacock feed to load the pre-show. Instead, it kept saying the event had already concluded. Once it finally comes back, it’s maybe 2 solid minutes behind the YouTube feed. On top of that, they announce a worthless match in Mandy Rose against Natalya. Considering how underwhelming this card is…wow. This is just a total mess.
  • Let me get this straight. Out of all those problems I just mentioned, they couldn’t even go with the logical outcome of Rose winning the match? If she had won, it would at least serve a purpose in giving Rose and Dana Brooke a means to say “Rose beat Nattie on the kickoff of Hell in a Cell, so we deserve a tag title match.” Now, she’s lost, so the one tag team in the women’s division has proven they DON’T deserve a title shot!? Wooooow.

SmackDown Women’s Championship Hell in a Cell Match

  • Bianca Belair can do a backflip off the turnbuckle with ease. Meanwhile, I twisted my ankle the other day jogging just by stepping weird. Very humbling. She’s great.
  • Nothing going on here needed to take place inside Hell in a Cell. It might as well not even be a cage match. Then again, isn’t that the case with most of these matches in the past decade?
  • With that, it’s over. It was a fine enough match, but nothing at all stands out and it was ultimately kind of a waste of time. Both are capable of doing much better and being in much stronger storylines, too.

Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins

  • Rollins jumps Cesaro during the entrance. I’m curious. Did that sell you on this being more interesting and entertaining, or is it a hollow attempt at that, in your mind? Drop a comment below and chime in. I’m feeling more cynical about it as just “Well, they tried a bare minimum type thing.”
  • This is good, but it’s nothing we haven’t already seen. It lacks the punch that their WrestleMania match has. Basically, it’s the same as watching a sequel movie where they repeat what they did in the first film without adding anything new, so you might as well just watch the original, as they did it better that first time.
  • Now that Rollins has won, they’re even. You can argue the only reason for this was to do that so they can run it back a third time and have the rubber match. Is that a good rationality? No. Is it more of an excuse than WWE has most of the time, lately, with all their incessant rematches? Well, the glass is half-full, right?

Alexa Bliss vs. Shayna Baszler

  • Oh boy. Let’s see how this turns out. I’m expecting a mess.
  • At some point, Alexa needs to do the whole thing with her arm looking like it’s dislocated, right? That works way too well with Shayna Baszler not to do that.
  • Okay. It’s silly, but I loved the bit with Bliss hypnotizing Nia Jax and forcing her to slap Reginald, then shrieking at each other. That was the best thing so far in this match, easily. They’re not topping that.
  • And they didn’t, cause it ended right after that, for the most part. This totally didn’t need to be a feud at all, let alone a match on this show, which is quickly becoming one of the most worthless events they’ve put on in a long, long while. Nothing even happened to bring Bray Wyatt back or something.

Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn

  • Let’s go. This match has little steam behind it and it’s been done a million times, but at least they’re talented enough to pull it off. Wake me up. Put on the best match you guys can.
  • Repeating the same “it ultimately doesn’t mean anything and the build for it was lackluster, but the match itself is fun within a bubble” sentiment. I hate when WWE is so repetitive that the only way to talk about it is to be repetitive since there’s nothing else to say.
  • The good thing is that these two are slugging it out and they always work well together.
  • Wait, it just ended like that? Okay. Whatever. Again, it’s not like it matters.

Raw Women’s Championship Match

  • I’ll be so pissed if Flair wins the title here. What about you?
  • One positive is that they’re keeping this where I’m not thinking one way or another about the finish. It doesn’t seem like it’s guaranteed to lead to Ripley retaining, nor Flair winning. That’s got my interest and fear.
  • Uh oh. Ripley’s playing into an injured leg. She’s going to tap, isn’t she?
  • Hm. A disqualification ending out of desperation. I’m not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, it’s better than if Ripley lost. Then again, I don’t like DQs on pay-per-views, especially when you know WWE is just stretching things out even more. In particular, it’s a way to keep Flair looking strong. Plus, she’ll probably win the title at Money in the Bank then, right? If that’s the case, there will be more negatives here than positives. But I guess I should “be happy with not the worst case scenario happening” or else I’m a bad fan, right?

WWE Championship Hell in a Cell Match

  • Hell in a Cell matches aren’t what they used to be, so nothing’s happened here that anyone will remember.
  • Referee bump. No way this ends with McIntyre as champion.
  • I’m surprised MVP is getting physical. I just assumed he still wasn’t cleared to compete. Obviously, that must not be the case. Also, this feels like McIntyre hit him with a Claymore to try to write that off as justice for losing at WrestleMania.
  • Drew’s body is certainly covered with enough bruises from that kendo stick. Ouch.
  • It ends in a roll-up! Hahahahaha! But hey, McIntyre wanted to keep MVP out of the cell and he dragged him in, so he made his bed by giving MVP the ability to interfere.
