Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:

Kickoff

  • Our panel at the start consists of Kayla Braxton, Booker T, Jerry Lawler, Kevin Patrick and Peter Rosenberg.
  • It is definitely confirmed now that last night’s tag team match between The New Day vs. Sheamus and Ridge Holland is set for the main card for tonight, rather than being put on the kickoff. I don’t know why WWE isn’t doing that, since they ran out of time last night, and we don’t need four hours to break down these cards. Frankly, I wouldn’t be shocked if it ends up getting cut again tonight due to time constraints.
  • Video packages and video packages and video packages. I think this company’s programming output is legitimately 30% recaps and vignettes, 10% commercials, 30% “new content” that just rehashes the same stuff and then 20% actual new content.
  • Okay, well, nothing at all to talk about there for two hours. There was more going on last night, even.
  • Let’s hope America the Beautiful is better tonight, as last night wasn’t my thing whatsoever. Yup. This one was fine.

Oh hey, we’re starting off with Triple H! It’s 8:13 and Triple H hasn’t even spoken yet. What’s the likelihood New Day gets cut from the show again? He welcomes us to WrestleMania and leaves his boots in the ring.

And here we are AGAIN showing Gable Steveson for a moment. They’re coming off so desperate.

Raw Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match

  • No special entrance for RK-Bro? That’s disappointing.
  • No special entrances for any of them. Lame.
  • It continues to astound me how Montez Ford is able to leap over the ring post. That guy is crazy athletic.
  • I love seeing Orton and Riddle in sync doing signature maneuvers. More tag teams need to have that kind of rhythm.
  • Niiiiiiiiiiice springboard RKO from Riddle to Tez from the top rope.
  • Orton hits an RKO of his own on Gable for the win.
  • After the match, The Street Profits had red solo cups for RK-Bro to celebrate. They invited Gable Steveson into the ring, too. But Chad Gable slapped the cup out of Steveson’s hands. Chad told him to shush and Steveson picked him up for a suplex.

Time for another recap of last night. If they end up cutting any matches short again, I hope they learn their lesson for next year and stop with all the extraneous content.

Singles Match – Bobby Lashley vs. Omos

  • Omos is 400 pounds. Insane.
  • Lashley didn’t quite get a “special” entrance, but at least he had a podium, a different camera angle and some pyro. This is still a very weak list of Mania entrances this year. None of them will be memorable in a month other than the fact that Cody Rhodes appeared at all.
  • Omos forgot Lashley was going to put his foot up in the corner. Time to run that spot back again.
  • Lashley’s boots are coming undone. Every strap is loose.
  • Impressive feat for Lashley to get a vertical suplex on Omos.
  • One more spear for the win and Lashley is victorious.

Anything Goes Match – Johnny Knoxville vs. Sami Zayn

  • I miss Sami Zayn’s old music. Also, once again, no special entrance.
  • Straight into a Helluva Kick from the bell. I hope we have a lot of fun bumps to come.
  • Zayn pushed some of the Jackass crew ringside and turned around into a fire extinguisher to the face.
  • Here comes the hardware. A trash can, stop sign, crutch…what else is under this ring?
  • Someone didn’t glue the mousetraps to the table well enough, but that should be a fun spot to come.
  • Zayn sends Knoxville through a table in the turnbuckle with an exploder suplex.
  • Chris Pontius is now in the ring to rip off his clothes and dance, as per his gimmick. Zayn knocks him down and tosses him out of the ring. Knoxville almost gets the win with a roll-up from that distraction.
  • I KNEW they wouldn’t be able to resist Wee Man coming out from under the ring Hornswoggle style. Called that from a mile away.
  • Holy shit, Wee Man bodyslams Sami! Now that’s something I didn’t call in advance.
  • Tornado DDT from Knoxville.
  • LMAO Zayn fucking NAILED Wee Man in the face with that kick!
  • Funny spot with Zayn on the top rope, just for Knoxville to trigger some pyro to make him fall.
  • Bowling ball to the crotch. Ouch. Followed by a mechanized boot to the crotch to keep that trend going.
  • Knoxville has a taser now. Zayn walks straight into the giant hand!
  • Tongs to the balls allows Knoxville to toss Zayn to the outside through the mouse trap table.
  • Zayn gets shocked with the taser and placed on a giant mouse trap. It doesn’t quite work the way it was supposed to, but Knoxville got it to spring, trap Zayn and get the pinfall.

Filling some time with a recap of McIntyre vs. Corbin from last night.

Women’s Tag Team Championship Fatal 4-Way Match

  • Between Big E’s ATV, Stone Cold’s ATV, the Flair/Rousey fight with the car, the Lesnar/Reigns things with the cars, Becky’s entrance just being an SUV and now, Sasha Banks coming out in a car, someone in WWE is REALLY feeling the automobile vibe lately. I’m not a car guy, so I’m thoroughly underwhelmed with all this, and you’re never going to see this on my list of best entrances.
  • As far as I’m concerned, Liv Morgan has a better entrance dressed up like Catwoman just for looking like that.
  • Did Morgan and Banks both botch their dives to the outside? I didn’t quite catch the angle.
  • Good spot with Morgan and Ripley with the double “collapsing towers” as Corey Graves called it.
  • Banks and Naomi hit a good tag team combo for the win (Banks pins Carmella). New champs!

Singles Match – AJ Styles vs. Edge

  • How is AJ Styles bleeding during his entrance?! Isn’t that Goldberg’s gimmick?
  • Maybe he got hit with some pyro, but it definitely looks more like a cut than a burn from the brief shots I can see.
  • Oh hey, Edge gets a special entrance, rising up on a throne and surrounded by fire. Finally, we got something extra.
  • Ouch. That vertical suplex to Edge onto the turnbuckles.
  • Rare to see someone like Styles do a torture rack slam, but I dig it. People should do that move more often (generally speaking). Give it to a big guy for his finisher.
  • A superplex onto the ring apron is a big nope from me. That’s got to hurt so much more than it even comes across.
  • Edge just barely got his shoulder up from that Styles Clash.
  • Damian Priest popped up ringside for a distraction, which Edge took advantage of and scored a pin after catching Styles with a spear when The Phenomenal One went for a Phenomenal Forearm.

Tag Team Match – The New Day vs. Ridge Holland and Sheamus

  • So the story they’re going for is that Butch is so much of a loose cannon that Sheamus is getting distracted trying to keep him at bay, making this two-on-one to Ridge Holland. At least, for the beginning of this match.
  • Xavier Woods is underrated. I’ll keep harping on that as long as it keeps being the case.
  • And in short fashion, Holland just gets the pin. What? The crowd isn’t liking this at all. Bad call going in this direction.

Another round of applause for the Hall of Fame class of 2022. Undertaker comes back out for one more moment to pose on the stage.

Singles Match – Austin Theory vs. Pat McAfee

  • Vince McMahon is out to give Austin Theory a proper announcement for his entrance.
  • Time for a selfie.
  • McAfee is coming out to Seven Nation Army and with the Dallas Cowgirls. That’s a good touch.
  • He punts a football into the crowd. Weird how that’s still a better entrance than what most other people had, isn’t it?
  • McAfee’s done great the past few times he performed, so I’m not surprised to see he’s doing well so far. Even a hurricanrana.
  • McAfee went for a damn swanton off the top rope! He missed, but still!
  • McAfee’s backflip off the top rope and then a leap to the top rope for a superplex was great, too!
  • I love that McAfee went for a punt. That makes so much sense.
  • McAfee wins with a roll-up—the dreaded 24/7 Championship finisher.
  • Vince McMahon then chastised Theory for losing. McAfee then started talking trash to Vince, who took off his coat, took of his tie, unbuttoned his shirt and revealed that he has a black tank on underneath!
  • We have another match about to start!

Vince McMahon vs. Pat McAfee

  • McMahon hits a clothesline, tosses McAfee into the turnbuckle. Woooooow both Austin and McMahon are wrestling this year. That’s nuts. Does that mean Austin is coming out to help McAfee win?
  • The referee isn’t going for a disqualification as you don’t mess with the boss. I’m convinced Stone Cold HAS to come out for this.
  • McMahon punts a football right into McAfee’s side for the victory (LOL!!!!)

Theory and McMahon shared a hug in the ring to set up the glass shattering! Knew it!!! I’ve been saying for months that they needed to do “Steve Austin stuns Austin Theory”

Stone Cold Stunner to Theory. The Texas Rattlesnake is left in the ring with Mr. McMahon. We all know what’s happening next. McMahon sips his beer that Austin gave him. They clink. Aaaaaand there’s the kick to the chest. McMahon completely botches the Stunner, but hey, the idea was there.

Theory had one of the best sells of all time and McMahon had another one of the worst, ROFL.

Time for Austin to celebrate with McAfee. There’s a chance this ends in a Stunner, too.

There we go. Stunner to McAfee! A minute later, there’s a shot of McAfee on the ground, dumping a can of beer into his mouth. This was great.

Winner Takes All Champion vs. Champion Match – Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar

  • I’m disappointed Roman Reigns didn’t get a special entrance.
  • Nothing for Lesnar, either. Why cheap out for the entrances this year? There were like two good ones.
  • Can’t say I pictured Brock Lesnar would do his own announcement.
  • More than anything, I just want Reigns to win this match, particularly with a clean victory, to finish the feud. But I’m hoping this match kicks ass, too.
  • I won’t be keeping tally of the times we see a Superman Punch, spear, German suplex or F5. But in this sequence alone, we had 2, 2, 5..wait, another punch…into an F5, yeah, I’m losing track.
  • Reigns spears Lesnar into the referee, then takes advantage of Chad Patton being down for a low blow. Heyman hands the universal title belt to Reigns, who nails Lesnar in the head. Two-count.
  • Reigns went for a spear with Lesnar not turning around, which was awkward. I’m glad that wasn’t the end of the match, as Lesnar grabbed the ropes.
  • Reigns goes for another and Brock catches him in a Kimura Lock. Heyman helped push the rope closer to Reigns so he could grab it.
  • Reigns is saying “it’s out” (his shoulder) while Heyman is yelling at him to rise up.
  • Lesnar goes for an F5, but Reigns gets out and hits another spear for the win!
  • This was an underwhelming kind of finish, but I’m glad Roman won.
