WWE RAW (1/20/2025)

Jey Uso opens the show. As he begins cutting his promo, the World Heavyweight Champion interrupts him. Gunther guesses that Jey was going to say he will beat him for the title. He calls Jey a funny little man, as we know that is happening on Saturday. Gunther believed him when he said he gets him every morning and believes in himself, until today, when he forgot about what happened the last time they talked.

It doesn’t matter what Jey says, because he can never follow it up. He is always there for others, but that only makes him a useful idiot. On Saturday, he will expose him for being a flash in the pan with no business being this close to the World Heavyweight Championship. Jey Uso tells him he’s right. But he is going to respect him, because only one person here has main evented WrestleMania, and it isn’t him. Gunther doesn’t like the sound of that, so he attacks Jey and a fight breaks out. Jey Uso gets the upper hand and Gunther has to retreat.

John “Bradshaw” Layfield joins Wade Barrett and Michael Cole on commentary.

#1. Rey Mysterio vs. Kofi Kingston (w/ Xavier Woods) Winner: Rey Mysterio

Xavier Woods returns (after being kicked out by the referee) to blindside Mysterio. The rest of the LWO rush out to save Rey, so New Day retreats. A few short moments later, The New Day returns to get a cheap shot on Joaquin Wilde.

American Made are motivated to chase gold. Chad Gable has got some advice from Dominik Mysterio about handling luchadors. Let’s see how that goes for them.

Sami Zayn heads to the ring. He talked with Adam Pearce and has officially entered the Royal Rumble match. Maybe it is time he helps himself. What does he want? He started thinking about 14-year-old him, and the young people wanting to become pro wrestlers. A small, lucky group gets to become WWE Superstars. And then the tiniest group of from those make it to the very top. Sami believes he is as good as all of those guys. The only difference between them and him is that they have a World Championship to their name, and he doesn’t. He has had a great life and career. He doesn’t need a World Championship, as he appreciates the support from all the fans more than anything. But dammit, he wants it, and he is going to take it. Kevin Owens enters.

Sami Zayn knew it would be a matter of time until they crossed paths. How do they want to do this? Sami assumes he is here to get him for helping out Roman Reigns. KO admits he was pretty upset, but it’s not like when Cody teamed with Roman. Sami and Roman had a lot of history. Both Roman and Kevin did things to Sami that he forgave them for, because that’s who he is. He’s a good person. He does a lot for his friends, and Sami is his best friend. Kevin wholeheartedly believes he can win the Royal Rumble, because he deserves it.

And then you know what? They main evented WrestleMania and won the tag titles. But one thing they have never done, is main event WrestleMania for the WWE Championship. When he wins the Royal Rumble, they will get to do that if Kevin walks out as the WWE Champion. Owens tells Zayn he has his back, just like Zayn will have his back against Cody. If Kevin needs him, he knows Sami will be there. KO leaves the ring without saying anything else.

#2. Nia Jax vs. Bayley Winner: Nia Jax

A hurt Rhea Ripley enters and goes after Nia Jax. Security and producers rush out to split them up, but have a tough time of it. After the fight calms down, Rhea Ripley grabs a microphone and challenges Jax to a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Chad Gable catches up with Dominik Mysterio to see if he can help with his luchador problem. Dirty Dom passes him a piece of paper, presumably with a phone number on it. Gable looks happy, as he is about to go learn the “Dart Arts of Lucha Libre”.

#3. Penta vs. Pete Dunne Winner: Penta

CM Punk enters the venue and gets an interview with Jackie Redmond. She asks what makes this Royal Rumble different? He says history. It is a fickle business. What have you done for me lately? CM Punk won the main event of the first episode on Netflix. The pressure is on and that is when CM Punk comes alive. Nobody can beat him when he is at his best with these people behind him.

Punk can’t see John Cena throwing him over the top rope. Roman Reigns needed his help to settle family business, and in the Rumble there are no friends. You put Hulk Hogan in the Rumble, and he will throw his dusty ass over the top rope and end Hulkamania forever. At the end of the night, 29 other guys will be going out, and CM Punk will be having his hand raised.

#4. Damage CTRL’s Dakota Kai & Iyo Sky vs. PFC’s Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark (w/ Sonya Deville) Winners: Damage CTRL

#5. Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre Winner: Seth Rollins

Drew McIntyre attacks Rollins after the match. Sami Zayn attempts to make the save, but accidentally kicks Rolliins in the face. All McIntyre can do is smile as he walks away. Zayn assures Rollins it was accidental.
