WWE Friday Night SmackDown Results for July 17, 2020


SmackDown begins with some of the superstars previewing what will happen tonight.

Big E vs. Cesaro – Winner Chooses Stipulation For Tag Title Match at Extreme Rules

The referee is distracted and Nakamura is able to kick Big E from behind and Cesaro follows up with the Neutralizer for the win.

Winner: Cesaro

After the match, Cesaro and Shinsuke gets a table but Kofi dives on them, stopping the assault. Kofi sets up the table on the outside and places Cesaro on the table, while Big E takes out Shinsuke. Kofi goes the top rope and stands on Big E’s shoulders looking to dive on the table before Cesaro and Shinsuke escape. The stipulation isn’t chosen yet.

King Corbin is interviewed and is asked about Matt Riddle, and he says he started it. He picks AJ to retain the title since Riddle is stupid and the match will be short and quick. But he says he’s also ambitious, going for the biggest and baddest guy. But he says he’s playing with fire and he will get burned. After Styles is done with him, the Bro will be exposed as a little boy.

Shinsuke and Cesaro pick a tables match for their stipulation.

A Moment of Bliss starts. Alexa makes a few prediction. First, she gives props for the five year anniversary of the women’s evolution starting. She then, predicts the Lakers will win the NBA Title, Riddle will become Intercontinental Champion, Strowman will retain the Unviersal Champion and before she continues to her mystery guest, Nikki believes Alexa will predict she’ll beat Bayley at Extreme Rules and she gets excited before Alexa calms her down.

Before Bliss can continue, Bayley and Sasha come out and Bayley and Sasha mock Nikki. Bayley and Sasha also remind them they started the women’s evolution and became the first women’s tag team champions. They continue to mock the two before their special guest, Asuka, comes out and all four women brawl.

Daniel Bryan cuts a pre-recorded promo, and he says AJ can be one of the greatest Intercontinental Champions ever, but if he’s not careful, his title reign can be very short.

Asuka and Nikki Cross vs. Bayley and Sasha Banks

Bayley pins Cross using the ropes.

Winners: Bayley and Sasha Banks

Miz and Morrison strategize for Morrison’s match against Braun.

Firefly Fun House features Bray at the swamp, previewing the environment. He says Braun was a lost sheep looking for a home when he first came here, and he found that home. He gave himĀ  the truth, purpose and he in turn created the monster. Then, he left, or so he thought. Darkness come to light, devils come to dance and horrors feel right at home. Once you enter, you’ll never truly leave. But Bray knows the monster he created is waiting to come home and is still within him.

John Morrison vs. Braun Strowman

Before the match, Strowman states there comes a time in a man’s life where he has to face his fears, and he says he has to destroy Bray before he becomes The Fiend.

Braun wins easily with the Running Powerslam.

Winner: Braun Strowman

Braun tells Bray he’s coming home after.

Lacey Evans vs. Naomi

Evans wins with the Woman’s Right.

Winner: Lacey Evans

Jeff Hardy is interviewed and is asked if battling with Sheamus in a bar fight is risky. He says it’s like battling an addiction. You can’t run fro it, you just have to take it head-on, and that’s what he’ll do. He’s also asked about the IC Title match and says it’s bittersweet because Sheamus cost him in that tournament before Sheamus Brogue Kicks him in the interview. Sheamus says next week on SmackDown, he’ll be cleansed before leaving.

Bayley and Sasha say they have all the momentum in the world and it’s destiny for them to walk out with all the titles.

Nikki Cross is upset at herself for losing backstage and she tells Alexa her confidence is shaken. Alexa says she will defeat Bayley, and Nikki says she doesn’t know. She sees Bayley and Sasha and attacks them from behind.

AJ Styles (C) vs. Matt Riddle – Intercontinental Championship

Styles counters the Bromission into a cover for the win.

Winner: AJ Styles

After the match, Styles offers his hand and the two shake before Corbin attacks Riddle from behind. Styles leaves and Corbin continues the assault with an End of Days.
