WWE NXT – Live Play-by-Play (5/10/2017)

Aleister Black vs Cezar Bononi

Another week, another squash match for Black. Black taunts Bononi a bit after Bononi does some trash talk. Black dodges some strikes and chases Bononi out of the ring. Bononi hits a drop kick and attempts a pinfall but Black immediately kicks out. Black hits Bononi with a jumping knee and follows up with another knee to the back. Black hits the Black Mass for the pinfall and victory.

Winner via Pinfall – Aleister Black

D.I.Y. comes out and Johnny Gargano cuts a promo. Gargano says that the tag team division needs to get in line, because D.I.Y is number one. Tino Sabatelli and Riddick Moss come out and confront D.I.Y, leading to a match.

D.I.Y. (Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano) vs Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss

Moss and Sabbatelli get the early advantage as they team up on Ciampa. Sabbatelli gets tagged in and continues to work on Ciampa. D.I.Y. regains the advantage as Gargano jumps out of the ring to go after Sabbatelli while Ciampa does the same, hitting Moss with a knee. Moss gets dragged back in as Gargano and Ciampa hit a double knee strike. Moss gets pinned by Ciampa for the victory.

Winners via Pinfall – D.I.Y.

Authors of Pain come out to confront D.I.Y. after the match, setting up a title match at NXT Takeover: Chicago.

#1 Contender’s Match (NXT Championship) – Roderick Strong vs Hideo Itami

Strong comes out first, followed by Itami. Strong controls the early part of the match by keeping Itami on his heels with consistent offense. Strong keeps Itami on the defense with some chops in the turnbuckle corners. Strong then keeps Itami grounded by going for a armbar on Itami’s bad shoulder. Strong continues to apply some pressure as Itami winces in pain. Itami finally breaks free and tries to get some momentum back, but Strong continues to control the match with methodical and efficient offense. Strong hits Itami with a drop kick and goes for the pin but Itami kicks out at two.

After the commercial break, both men are down in the middle of the ring. Strong looks exhausted as it appears Itami finally started fighting back. Itami hits a flurry of kicks and follows up with a suplex. Itami keeps the pace up with more strikes, but Strong counters with a side slam. Strong and Itami face each other in the middle of the ring and exchange more strikes. Strong hits a backbreaker and tries for the pin but Itami kicks out at two. Itami manages to hit a Falcon Arrow from the top rope and tries for a pin himself, yet Strong kicks out at two. Itami delivers more sharp elbows while Strong returns fire with some chops. Roderick Strong hits a jumping knee and tries for a pinfall again, but Itami won’t go away.

Itami hits his own jumping knee while running the ropes, knocking Strong down. Itami attempts the GTS but Strong counters. Itami ends up hitting another running knee on Strong in the turnbuckle and follows up with a running foot stomp. Itami finally hits the GTS on Strong for the full pinfall and victory.

Winner via Pinfall – Hideo Itami

Itami soaks in the crowd and then helps up Roderick Strong. Itami holds up Strong’s arm and then walks back backstage. Strong gathers himself in the ring as the show closes.
