WWE SmackDown Live Results – October 9, 2018: Lynch vs. Flair, Big Show Returns, Hardy vs. Joe


Welcome to SmackDown Live.

Match Number One:  Becky Lynch versus Charlotte Flair for the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship where Becky will lose the title if she loses by disqualification


They lock up and they go into the corner and Becky with a clean break.  They lock up again and Becky with a wrist lock.  Charlotte with a reversal, but Becky stomps on the foot to reverse the hold.  Charlotte bridges and connects with an arm drag.  Charlotte tries for the figure four but Becky escapes.  Becky pushes Charlotte.  Becky runs Charlotte’s face across the top rope before sending her into the turnbuckles.  Charlotte sends Becky into a turnbuckle and then Becky kicks Charlotte into the turnbuckles.  Becky sends Charlotte face first into the mat and gets a near fall.

Becky with a leg drop and then she struts before hitting a leg drop.  Becky misses a twisting leg drop and Charlotte gets a near fall with a rollup.  Charlotte with a jackknife cover for a near fall.  Both women go for clotheslines and both women are down.  Charlotte with a neck breaker but Becky with a kick.  Charlotte sends Becky into the turnbuckles but misses a splash into the corner.  Becky with a double jump side kick and she goes for DisArmHer but Charlotte escapes.  Charlotte with a Dragon Screw.  Becky with an arm drag into an arm bar.  Becky bridges while applying a hammer lock.

Charlotte with a double leg take down and she goes for a Boston Crab but Becky blocks it.  Charlotte catapults Becky into the turnbuckles and Becky rolls to the floor.  Charlotte with a pescado onto Becky.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Becky with an Irish whip but Charlotte does the Flair Flip and goes to the apron.  Charlotte goes up top and Becky stops her and press slams Charlotte for a near fall.  Becky with European uppercuts and then she uses the hair to out backslide Charlotte.  Becky with an Exploder for a near fall.  Charlotte with a knee and chops.  Charlotte with a belly-to-back suplex after avoiding a clothesline.  Charlotte kips up and then falls back to her knees.  Charlotte pulls herself up using the ropes and she goes up top for a moonsault but Becky pulls Charlotte off the turnbuckles.

Becky goes to the turnbuckles and misses a splash.  Charlotte with a rollup for a near fall.  Becky with an enzuigiri.  Becky goes up top but Charlotte hits the ropes to crotch Becky.  Becky counters a power bomb into a cross arm breaker and triangle.  Charlotte with forearms to try to escape and then she gets a near fall.  Charlotte gets a near fall but picks up Becky for a one arm power bomb and she gets a near fall.

The referee makes his count as they both try to get back to their feet.  Charlotte goes for the figure four leg lock but Becky stops her and hits a clothesline for a near fall.  Becky gets another near fall.  Becky with one more near fall.

The referee starts his count and Charlotte chases after Becky and sends her back into the ring.  Becky pushes Charlotte into the referee and Becky with a kick to the head.  Becky grabs the title belt and the referee sees it and stops her.  Charlotte with a rollup while the referee tries to disqualify her.  Becky rolls through and gets a near fall.  Charlotte with a spear but Becky rolls to the floor.  Charlotte goes for a moonsault onto the floor from the turnbuckles and misses.  Becky with an exploder on the floor and then Becky gets back into the ring and the referee restarts the count.

Becky misses a baseball slide at nine and Charlotte hits an exploder on the floor.  The referee resumes his count.  Charlotte with Natural Selection but Becky rolls to the floor.  Charlotte is sent into the ring post but Charlotte pulls Becky off the apron and the referee gets to ten.

Double Count Out (Becky Retains Championship)

After the match, Charlotte goes after Becky and Becky kicks Charlotte away before Becky goes to the entrance.  Charlotte with a spear into the matrix board at the entrance.

Charlotte is being checked on by the medical staff as she holds her right arm.

Jeff Hardy gets ready for his match against Samoa Joe as we go to commercial.

Match Number Two:  Samoa Joe versus Jeff Hardy in a Crown Jewel World Cup Qualifying Match

Joe with a head butt after an exchange of punches.  Joe chokes Hardy in the ropes.  Hardy punches Joe in the knee and then punches and kicks Joe.  Hardy goes for a Twist of Fate but Joe escapes.  Hardy with a drop kick to the knee and Joe goes to the floor.

We go to commercial

We are back and Joe with a chop but Jeff bounces off the ropes with a punch.  Joe with a back elbow and Hardy goes down hard.  Joe works on the neck and tries to squeeze Jeff’s head.  Hardy with elbows but Joe pulls Hardy down by the hair and hits a back senton for a near fall.  Joe with jabs followed by a snap mare and then he stretches Hardy.  Hardy with elbows and punches to Joe.  Joe with a running forearm to the top of the head followed by a reverse atomic drop and leg drop to the leg.

Joe sends Hardy into the ring steps but when he goes for a kick to the head, Hardy misses and Joe kicks the ring steps.  Hardy with a punch and elbows to the injured knee followed by a leg drop to the leg.  Hardy with kicks to the leg and he continues to put pressure on the left knee.  Joe with a punch that knocks Hardy down.  Joe cannot get back to his feet and the referee stops the match because Joe cannot get back to his feet.

Winner:  Jeff Hardy (by referee stoppage)

After the match, Joe tries to get back to his feet but he cannot do it.

Tom mentions that we will have a major appearance at Smackdown 1000 next week.  Evolution will be at Smackdown next week.

Miz makes his way to the ring for MizTV and we go to commercial.

Paige is in the back and she mentions the need for medical attention for Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. Becky and Charlotte will meet again at Evolution. The match will take place in a Last Woman Standing Match.
