WWE SmackDown Results – August 15th, 2017: John Cena vs. Jinder Mahal, Baron Corbin Cashes In MITB

Welcome to SmackDown Live. The Singh Brothers introduce Jinder Mahal to start the show. Mahal walks down to the ring. Mahal cuts a promo about how they celebrate Independence Day in India and his reign as WWE Champion. He brought out some dancers to celebrate the holiday. He brought in a singer to sing the national anthem of India. Mahal vowed that it is Shinsuke Nakamura’s destiny to lose to him at SummerSlam. He promised to retain the WWE Title. Nakamura walked out to the ring and said that this Sunday would be the day that Mahal loses the WWE Title to him. They had a staredown to close the segment.


-Commercial Break-

Singles Match: Becky Lynch vs. Natalya

They start out brawling and exchanging shots. Lynch sent Natalya to the floor, and we cut to break.

-Commercial Break-


We’re back with Natalya hitting a series of drop kicks. Natalya knocked her down, but Natalya fired back with a series of strikes then a forearm shot for 2. Lynch went for the Disarmer, but Natalya blocked and went for the Sharpshooter but Lynch countered. Natalya rolled her up for 2. Lynch hit an enziguri then went to the top rope and missed a leg drop. Natalya locked in the Sharpshooter for the win.


Winner: Natalya

Post-match, Natalya beat down Lynch until Naomi, who was on commentary for the match, made the save. Carmella with James Ellsworth walked out to the stage. Carmella reminded us that she is Miss Money In The Bank. She wished Natalya and Naomi the best of luck at SummerSlam. Ellsworth said that to whoever wins at SummerSlam, they lose. Yes, he actually said that.

-Commercial Break-

We see Tamina and Lana talking in the backstage. Tamina wants to know why she doesn’t have a match tonight. Lana tells her that she is not ready for a title match. Tamina points out that Lana had several title match. Lana said that people don’t fear Tamina yet and if she follows her lead then they will. She promised to help Tamina become SmackDown Women’s Champion.


We see The Usos talking with Daniel Bryan, who thought that they wanted him to be in their rap battle. New Day wanted to know which members of The New Day who they were wrestling at SummerSlam. Bryan noted that it would be Big E and Xavier Woods. They wanted a match with Big E and Kofi Kingston tonight. Bryan granted their wish.

-Commercial Break-

Singles Match: Rusev vs. Chad Gable


They start brawling. Gable hit a belly-to-belly suplex. Rusev rolled to the floor then attacked Gable and sent him into the ring steps as well as over the announce table. Both Superstars were counted out and we have no winner. Rusev cleared the table and locked in the Accolade on Gable. Rusev was about to cut a promo in the ring but Randy Orton came out of nowhere and hit an RKO to Rusev.

-Commercial Break-

AJ Styles walked out to the ring to open the second hour. He wanted Shane McMahon to come out to the ring, which he did. McMahon said that there is no reason for Styles to apologize to him. McMahon said that he is the special guest referee as someone who if they get hit then they can keep going for the upcoming United States Title match at SummerSlam. Styles said that the kick last week was an accident. Styles wants to know if McMahon will screw him over at SummerSlam. McMahon said that the kick was not on purpose and that most referees cannot be touched during a match. However, if Styles touches or shoves him then that is a whole different story. This led to Kevin Owens coming out to the ring. Owens wants to know why Styles is so upset because McMahon is telling him the rules of the match. Owens likes the rules because Styles can’t himself DQ’d. Owens told McMahon that if he were to hit McMahon then it would be a complete accident. Owens knows that McMahon will call it right down the middle and that he will win the US Title. Owens and Styles got into a scuffle and Styles almost hit McMahon but McMahon stopped him. Styles and McMahon started arguing and Owens accidentally hit McMahon with a super kick.


-Commercial Break-

The New Day walked down to the ring and cut a promo about how facing The Usos will be a breeze. They said that The Usos can catch their hands tonight, SummerSlam and going forward. They vowed to retain the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at SummerSlam.

Non-Title Match: The New Day vs. The Usos

Woods and Kingston beat down Jimmy in the corner then hit a series of leg drops.

-Commercial Break-

We’re back with Woods hitting a series of strikes to The Usos. Woods was sent to the apron and Jimmy hit a big right hand. Woods connected with an up kick then he and Kingston hit a double superkick for 2 as Jey broke it up. Woods knocked Jey out of the ring. Kingston missed Trouble in Paradise but hit a backbreaker instead. Jey distracted Kingston, and they hit a double superkick for the win.

Winners: The Usos.

-Commercial Break-

There was a Fashion Files segment shown.

Singles Match: Jinder Mahal vs. John Cena

They lock up to begin the match. Mahal knocked him down and sent him to the floor.

-Commercial Break-

We’re back from break with Mahal in control of Cena. Moments later, Cena fought back with a series of strikes and hit the five knuckle shuffle. The Singh Brothers pulled Mahal out of the ring. This led to Mahal attacking Cena from behind after the Singh Brothers distracted Cena. The referee sent the brothers to the back. Mahal hit Cena with a powerslam and went for his finisher but Cena blocked it and hit the AA for a near fall. Cena hit an AA off the middle rope and went for the cover but Baron Corbin ran out to the ring and attacked Cena.

Winner: Cena via DQ.

Post-match, Corbin hit Cena with the MITB briefcase then cashed in the MITB contract.

WWE Championship Match: Jinder Mahal © vs. Baron Corbin

The bell sounded and Corbin knocked Cena off the apron. Mahal rolled up Corbin for the win.

Winner: Mahal

Corbin was upset in the ring while Cena laughed at ringside. Mahal celebrated on the stage to close the show.
